192.168.100.1 — Modem Admin Login
192.168.100.1 is different from the other addresses on this site. On a cable modem it is not really a router panel at all — it is a diagnostic page baked into the DOCSIS standard, and it works even when the modem has no internet at all. On Huawei fibre terminals it is a full admin interface.

Quick answer
Connect by Ethernet to the modem and open http://192.168.100.1. On a cable modem you will reach a status page showing signal levels and connection state; most are read-only or need no password at all. On a Huawei ONT or HG-series unit you will get a login prompt, usually root / admin or telecomadmin with an ISP-set password.
Which routers use 192.168.100.1
Two very different families of hardware share this address, and they behave nothing alike.
| Brand | Typical models | Username | Password |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motorola / Arris SURFboard | SB and SBG cable modems | (none) | (none) |
| Netgear | CM and CAX cable modems | admin | password |
| Technicolor | Cable modems for US and EU carriers | admin | admin |
| Hitron | CODA and CGN series | (none) | (none) |
| Huawei | HG8245, HG8145, EchoLife ONT | root | admin |
| Huawei (carrier account) | Same units, full access | telecomadmin | Set by ISP |
| ZTE | F-series GPON terminals | admin | admin |
| Cisco / Scientific Atlanta | Legacy cable modems | (none) | (none) |

How to log in at 192.168.100.1
On a cable modem, use an Ethernet cable. The diagnostic page is frequently unreachable over Wi-Fi on combined units.
- 01
Plug into the modem directly
Run a cable from your laptop to a LAN port on the modem itself, not to a router downstream of it. On a separate modem and router setup, the router will not pass traffic to this address at all.
- 02
Open the address
Type
http://192.168.100.1. On most cable modems the page appears immediately with no credentials, because DOCSIS defines it as a status view rather than a control panel. - 03
Read the signal page first
Downstream power, upstream power and signal-to-noise ratio are the numbers that matter. Downstream power between roughly -7 and +7 dBmV and SNR above 33 dB are healthy on most networks. Values well outside that are worth quoting to your ISP.
- 04
Sign in only if prompted
Huawei fibre terminals do require credentials. root with admin covers the basic user account on many units. The telecomadmin account has far more access but its password is normally set by the carrier and not published.
- 05
Understand what you cannot change
A cable modem in bridge mode has no Wi-Fi, no DHCP and no firewall to configure, because the router behind it does all of that. If you came looking for wireless settings, they live on the router, not here.
Why this address answers when nothing else does
The DOCSIS specification requires cable modems to expose a management interface on 192.168.100.1 regardless of what the rest of the network is doing. That is deliberate: a technician needs to read signal levels on a modem that has completely failed to connect. It is why this page loads during an outage when every other address on your network is dead, and why it is the first thing worth checking when the internet drops.
The numbers on that page are genuinely useful. If downstream power is far below zero or upstream power is pushed near the top of its range, the modem is fighting the line rather than the internet, and no amount of restarting your router will help. Correctable and uncorrectable codeword counts climbing quickly point the same way. Screenshot the page before you call support; it moves the conversation past the script considerably faster.
Huawei fibre terminals are a separate story. These are full gateways with Wi-Fi, routing and VoIP, and they usually carry two accounts: a limited user login that ISPs share with customers, and a telecomadmin superuser that they do not. Many carriers change both. If root and admin fail on your unit, the credentials were changed at provisioning and there is no published value to try.
One caution worth repeating: on a combined modem-router unit, resetting to factory defaults can wipe carrier provisioning as well as your own settings, and on some fibre terminals that means a technician visit to reprovision the line. Reset a cable modem freely; think twice before resetting a fibre ONT.
When 192.168.100.1 will not open
The page will not load over Wi-Fi
On many combined units the diagnostic address is only reachable from a wired port. Connect an Ethernet cable and try again.
It loads on the modem but not through my router
That is normal. Your router is on a different subnet and does not route to 192.168.100.1. Plug directly into the modem, or add a static route if your router supports one.
root and admin are rejected on a Huawei unit
The carrier changed the credentials during provisioning. The telecomadmin account also usually has an ISP-set password. Contact the provider rather than resetting a fibre terminal.
There are no Wi-Fi settings on the page
A bridged cable modem has no wireless function. Those settings live on the router connected behind it.
The signal numbers look bad
Record downstream power, upstream power and SNR, then report them. Values well outside the normal range point to a line or splitter fault rather than anything you can fix in software.
Longer diagnostic sequence: twelve fixes for a router login page that will not load.
Common questions about 192.168.100.1
What is the password for 192.168.100.1?
Most cable modems need no password at all, because the page is a diagnostic status view defined by the DOCSIS standard. Netgear cable modems often use admin with password. Huawei fibre terminals use root with admin, or a carrier-set telecomadmin account.
Why does 192.168.100.1 work when the internet is down?
The page is served by the modem itself and exists specifically so signal levels can be read on a modem that has failed to connect. It does not depend on the connection working.
Can I change my Wi-Fi password here?
Only on a combined modem-router or a Huawei fibre gateway. A bridged cable modem has no wireless function, so those settings are on your own router instead.
What signal levels are considered normal?
On most cable networks, downstream power roughly between -7 and +7 dBmV and a signal-to-noise ratio above 33 dB. Readings well outside that range usually indicate a cabling or splitter problem.
Is it safe to factory reset the modem?
A cable modem, generally yes. A fibre ONT, be careful: resetting can erase carrier provisioning and may require a technician to restore service.
What is telecomadmin?
A superuser account on Huawei fibre terminals with far broader access than the standard user login. Its password is set by the internet provider and is not a published default.
